But What About Rape?

Fifty years ago, when I was 18, I was a victim of criminal sexual assault. I conceived a child by way of rape. All this happened only 18 months after Roe v. Wade was made law. At that time, I was literally homeless, motherless, jobless, penniless, a teenager, pregnant by rape, and I have an uncurable, rare physical disability... For all these “reasons,” I was told that I was the “perfect candidate” for an abortion.

On June 14, 1975, I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl who I named Jennifer. My inner healing began with her very first smile, her first tooth, her first words, and her first steps. My life was all about Jennifer, NOT about the rape. My child was made in the image and likeness of God, our Creator.

No matter what, the circumstances of someone’s conception never determine the quality, sacredness, or value of a new life.

Today, Jennifer is a college graduate, a happily married wife of 21 years, a mother of 5 children, and a very productive member and citizen of Minnesota, and I am a grateful, doting grandmother of seven with a clear conscience and no regrets.

By my testimony, I give you absolute proof that abortion is never necessary, ever! With God, all things are possible. Every child conceived is destined for great good.
